* Residence with date on main property tab
Residence with date on main property tab
For some reason the (very handy) residence field on the main tab comes without a date field. It would be great if I could enter a date and a residence (as is often what one needs) and it would be even more great if some + sign was available next to it to clear the field for a next entry (so, keep the existing one and add the next).

Re: Residence with date on main property tab
Joop, I have moved this to the General Usage Forum, mainly because I think your wish can be satisfied with existing features.
I am not aware of a Residence field being on the Main tab of the Individual Property Box by default, so I suspect you have customised the Main tab and added the predefined Residence item that does not have an associated Date field, just like the Occupation field.
So to add the Date field all you need to do is change the customisation. Remove the predefined Residence item, and replace it with a <Custom Item> that you can name Residence. Remember to untick Show most commonly-used items only.
Tick Part 1 and set Label: to Resided and Data Reference: to INDI.RESI[1].DATE.
Tick Part 2 and set Label: to in and Data Reference: to INDI.RESI[1].PLAC or INDI.RESI[1].ADDR whichever you prefer. Set Alignment Group 2 and 3 to 2 and 3 respectively.
Now, usually fields on the Main tab only show the 1st instance of any Fact, because their Data Refs use the index [1]. To show the 2nd or subsequent instances would required customised items with index [2] or [3], et seq. Remember the Main tab fields are not separate data items, but just a filtered view of the Facts tab, which is where multiple instance Facts such as Census, Occupation, and Residence would normally be entered.
If you want to show & enter multiple instances of Residence then each instance must be customised into the Main tab, or you could create a separate Residence tab to handle multiple instances that displayed perhaps not just Date and Place but also Address and Notes, etc.

Yes, I customised the Main tab to include Residence. But in the predefined way. I'll now change it to what you proposed. Thanks for your help Mike. It's amazing how flexible FH is when you know more about the internals.
