Not directly related custom query

Post by Johnr65 » 10 Jun 2015 14:22

I need a custom query to be made up to show which people are not directly related to me. This occurs a lot when using AS to add marriages and I end up with the spouse's parents who are not related to me.
Thank you

John, please clarify people not directly related to me.
Does this include or exclude people related by marriage?
Does this include or exclude people related by adoption?

If all those are considerd directly related to you, then they all have the same Relation Pool number as yours.
So everyone else has a different Relation Pool number.

Assuming you are the FileRoot() person, the Rows tab filter would be:
Exclude if =IsTrue( RelationPool(%INDI%) = RelationPool(FileRoot()) ) is true
or
Add if =Not( RelationPool(%INDI%) = RelationPool(FileRoot()) ) is true

However, it should be possible to avoid your problems by correctly adding Individuals within AS.
Maybe that needs to be an AS Forum discussion?

If my name is Smith, and a 5th cousin marries say Annie Rogers(my relation) to Fred Bloggs(he becomes my relation's husband). However in the AS marriage, one has to record, Fred Bloggs's parent or parents-these are not related to me and so should be deleted from my tree; obviously I can make a note of his parents but don't need to have them on my tree.

If you do not want an Individual record added to your tree, then do NOT add them via AS.

It is NOT mandatory to add anybody to the Parents tab for a Marriage in AS.

If you wish to record their names in the Source record Text From Source transcription field, then when you create the Auto-Text in AS manually enter their names (or edit later in FH). In fact editing the Auto-Text is quite a common necessity to correct or add details to match say a Certificate, but where Individuals or Facts are not wanted in your tree.

In your example, do NOT add Fred Bloggs parents in the Parents tab.
Instead, enter them via the Auto-text edit box to mimic the Marriage Certificate.

The AS help says:
If you click on the Auto button and choose an appropriate template, Ancestral Sources will create a transcription for you but you will then almost certainly need to edit this transcription to make it match the actual text of the original marriage document.

Ah I see but meanwhile can you please make me a custom query so that I can delete them but add them to the individual's note box?

The attached Query lists all Individuals unrelated to File Root by using =Relationship(FileRoot(),%INDI%,TEXT,1) function.

Note that the Relationship to Root column is empty.

The Pool column holds the Relation Pool number.
Your main & largest Pool, which should include you, is usually Pool number 1.
So anyone with a different Pool number is definitely unrelated.
People with Pool number 1 are probably the Ancestors of Spouses of your relatives that you are looking for.
