Using Publish, Narrative Reports, Individual Narrative the following happens.

A person with first name, middle name, surname is printed with the middle name missing. See example.

Dave, that is easily corrected with a little customisation as follows.

Use Report Options > Format tab and under Heading select Record.
Click Edit and alter Heading Text to %INDI.NAME:ADORNED_FULL% (=LifeDates2())
i.e. Change NAME qualifier from ADORNED to ADORNED_FULL

I would advise you Save Report As > Custom Report Type in order to preserve that custom setting.

Further comment.

I am still confused as to the reasoning behind the standard report not displaying the full name. Are there, I wonder, any other instances of this?

Yes, it does seem a bit hit or miss.
The Individual Summary Report and Family Group Sheet and Record Detail Reports use ADORNED_FULL.
Whereas, all three Narrative Reports and both Outline Reports use only ADORNED by default.
I suspect the reason is lost in the mists of history.
