Finding citations and AS Text

Post by GlennC » 28 May 2015 00:01

Hi. I'm a TMG Refugee just getting started with FH. I have a couple of questions that are probably simple, but I haven't found the answers in the documentation or on the forum. My apologies if they have been answered before.

First, is there any way to determine which individual or family cites a particular source? I made a dummy source when I was starting and I'd like to change the citations to refer to a real source. The Source Records table shows that there are two citations of the dummy source, but I can't find where they are.

Second, I used AS to create a census source and entered a note in the "Text" box. The note shows up when I print an FH report, so I know it was created successfully, but I can't find it in any FH display. Where should the AS Text field appear in FH?

Thanks,
Glenn

Hi Glenn,

Welcome to the user group.

To see where the source is cited, go to the Records Window to the Sources tab. Select the source in the list and in the menu select View > Record Links...

The information entered in the Text box in AS ends up in the Text From Source field for the source record. One way to see it is to again select the source in the list of sources on the Records Window, Sources tab and double click on it. This will open the property box for that source. The text should appear in the Text from Source field.

Thanks Bill. Good explanation. It turns out that my two problems were just different aspects of the same problem. The AS Text was attached to the dummy sources, but the dummy sources apparently weren't attached to any individuals. I'm not sure why they showed up in the report, but at least I can find and fix them now. I appreciate the help.

Glenn

You could also use the "List All Citations for a Source" plugin. This will list the Event and other Facts applying to the individual which associate with that Event.

Hi Glen, as a newcomer have a look at how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers.
It does not answer your specific question but gives an insight into features you may be unaware of.
