Sources and citations

Post by janefrances » 16 May 2015 17:57

Well, after my last post regarding my confusion with source records and the timeline facts  I have had another go

This is what steps I have taken so far to add the death certificate of a child with a citation to the father in my file.

Clicked on the yellow source pane at the top of the screen and created a new source with text from source and attached the certificate all ok so far.

My confusion comes with what steps to take now, so that I can attach the citation to the father. I've been clicking on the enable automatic source citations at the top of the screen then going the parent property box then the facts tab, but do I have to add the death informed or residence fact first? I've been trying to use the clone and copy cogg at the top of the yellow box but it doesn't seem to paste the assessment and entry date into the facts for the father.

Thanks in advance
Jane

Hello Jane,
do I have to add the death informed or residence fact first?
Yes, if you want to use the child's death certificate as a source for the father's residence and you do not already have the appropriate residence event for him, you need to create it. If you have Automatic Source Citations enabled you should then see that the source is added automatically, and immediately, to the new fact. FH will continue to add the source to every new fact you create until you disable automatic citations.

If you already have the residence fact and just want to add the new source to it, use the Copy Pane Citation option from the cog menu in the Automatic Source Citations pane at the top, and then select the residence fact and paste the citation in the Source pane of the Property box (use the icon just left of the red cross in the source pane toolbar).
