Travelling

Post by Johnr65 » 15 May 2015 18:35

Some of my ancestors/relations didn't always emigrate to places but travelled there for work purposes and took their families with them or they went later.
Is there a category that can be set up to allow for these facts on FH6 please?

Have a look at Custom Fact creation (12500), but you could always use the Residence fact with a Date period to cover the time they were there. Also, if it was for work purposes then an Occupation fact may be used, remembering that every fact can define the Place and Address. So both may be used to define their home residence and their work place. The change of Place compared to previous facts indicates the travelling.

Remember that Custom Facts may not export to other genealogy products as reliably as standard facts such as Residence & Occupation.

You can add Note text to the Residence & Occupation facts to cover the 'travelling' and incorporate that into the Sentence for Narrative Reports. Then each family member would have a similar Residence and perhaps Occupation fact to cover the period they were there.

You can also use the Emigration/Immigration standard facts, and customise the Sentence for the particular travel mode.
