Same for me - I would love to be able to turn the focus window off completely.

Hanning , can't remember how I did it and now I start with Records Window instead! Sorry off out now so not time to check how.

To startup with the Records Window instead of Focus Window use Tools > Preferences > Startup > Display the Records Window, instead of the Focus Window, at Startup, however this does NOT turn off the Focus Window, but does hide it.

I find it hard to understand why the desire to remove the Focus Window - you don't have to look at it and when it is not open it comes down to a button on the navigation bar. If that is too much then simply close down the navigation bar, although frankly I would not recommend it. We all have different ways of looking at things and the beauty of FH is that within reason it allows us to make our own choices.
I regularly use the focus window, the records window, the media Window and the floating property box but never use diagrams. However, I can't imagine that a suggestion that we get rid of diagrams will get much support.

Re: Focus Window display of Spouses of children & siblings
I didn't think anyone was advocating its removal from the software - rather they simply wanted to turn it off in such a way that it didn't appear unless positive action was taken. The menu option Preferences / StartUp has an option to do precisely that - it even removes it from the navigation bar until you open it. The trouble is - I set that option so many years ago that I couldn't remember where it was!DavidNewton wrote:I find it hard to understand why the desire to remove the Focus Window ...
The great strength of FH is the way that it allows different ways of working and usually in a logical manner.

Indeed, I was not suggesting it be removed, and I have found the option you mentioned thank you Mike. I like to have a lot of windows open at one time and sometimes there just is not enough room to see what I want to see, when I want to see it. Hence the request.

Sorry, I misinterpreted "turn the focus window off completely" as "remove".

Re: Focus Window display of Spouses of children & siblings
Mike - On 4 October you posted 2 custom queries and a custom chart to help me view a family with the marriage partners of children and siblings.
I failed to thank you because until today, I had no idea what to do with them.
I have had difficulty working out (or finding in help) where FH stores its templates - and I downloaded to the project folder where they did not show up.
Today after using FH with some pleasure for the last two weeks and having listed 142 people in 54 families I felt it was time to have another look at the solutions you suggested for finding the surnames of cousins.
This time, I found the folder on my C drive for program data for Calico Pie and have downloaded the chart and queries.
The chart is particularly quick and easy to use. So thank you very much.

Re: Focus Window display of Spouses of children & siblings
Evelyn, I am sorry about your difficulties installing those custom files.
Usually when such files are opened in a browser they are automatically opened by FH and installed.
If downloaded as standalone fi!es then the recommended way to install them is to use the FH File > Import/Export > Import commands for the appropriate type of file, or simply double-click the file to open it using FH.
If this does not work on your PC it would seem the FH default file associations have been upset.
Use the Windows Set Program Defaults for FH to restore them.
