Handling Errors in GEDCOM Transfers

I have imported my family file from FTM into FH6 as a GEDCOM file and the first thing I did after the transfer was to review the exception report and try to correct any errors in the data.

Most of these I have done successfully. However, I have just discovered when viewing the record list of places that it also contains occupations. I opened the record of an individual whose occupation I knew and under the fact for occupation that field was blank and the occupation appeared in the place field! I checked back into the same record in the original FTM file and it became obvious why FH6 couldn't handle the transfer correctly. FTM contains in its facts box a single field to record place OR description against all events such as name, occupation, birth, death, burial etc. This is clearly a shortcoming of my older version of FTM and not the fault of FH6.

My question is whether there is a way to auto correct this error or do I have to manually correct each incidence?

The only automatic way to transfer those values would be to write a Plugin script, and Place values are a bit tricky because they are actually Place Records, so as a newcomer that might be too difficult, but another FHUG user might take pity and write a Plugin for you.

Thanks Mike.

You're quite right. Writing a plug-in would be a step too far for me! It would probably be safer to bite the bullet and chip away at it manually.
