Multiple Spouses and Multimedia

Post by REMyhill » 30 Mar 2015 16:30

I'm new to FH6 and new to FHUG but I hope to get along with both. After 20+ years of old versions of Family Tree Maker, FH6 is a steep learning curve! One issue I am struggling with is thumbnail pictures associated with individuals who have more than one spouse. Can anyone tell me whether it's possible to show a different picture of an individual alongside each spouse in their focus window? For instance if someone lost or divorced a spouse 25 years ago and remarried 5 years ago it would be useful to show an older photo of that person alongside the first spouse.

I'm not sure whether it's possible, but I'd appreciate any advice on this topic. Thanks.

Welcome to the FHUG.

That is a nice idea, but at present not possible.
However, the Focus Window does display several images of the individual at the top.
So if you have two images contemporary with their two marriages in the Media tab, then both will apear in the Focus Window at the top.

If you have a photo editing program you could combine the photos of the young person plus young spouse into one new picture (and crop them to head and shoulders at the same time). Then repeat for the older person plus second spouse to produce a picture of the later couple. While doing this you could add captions to the photos, with names and dates if your editing program allows it.

At least that associates pairs as you would want.

If you go the [kb]|[/kb]in FHUG and enter "photo utility" into the search box (top right corner of the KB home page) it displays a few links that might be of help.

See fhugdownloads:graphics|> Downloads and Links ~ Graphics Packages as an alternative to David's search method. fhugdownloads:contents:irfanview|> Utility ~ IrfanView is popular and free.

I think David is suggesting that the resulting photo of each couple should be the preferred image for the two different spouses, rather than the common individual.

Unfortunately, it does not work if those spouses have also married twice.

Thank you both for your replies. At least I know it isn't something I'm missing. I'm reasonably conversant with Photoshop so I might try something along the lines of David's suggestion.
