Linking individuals
How do I link an individual to another individual? I seem to have an ID set up for an individual and now find that she is the second partner to a male ID, but can't work out to link her to him.

Re: Linking individuals
create a marriage / partnership with a circa date for their meeting / living together? For place I just put "PARTNER", make sure you give their "marriage" a status of unmarried couple or never married which should help in reports.

Re: Linking individuals
Are you just asking how to link two people who are both already in your file?
You do this by viewing one of them in the Focus Window and/or Property Box, and clicking Add Spouse/Partner. Then choose Link Existing Record and you will be able to select the partner from the list of existing individuals.
Then proceed as Jim sugests, using the Status field in the main tab of the Property Box to indicate unmarried couple or never married.

Re: Linking individuals
Could you please update your FH Version so it appears in the right-hand panel, and we know what you are using. At the very top of this FHUG page click User Control Panel, then on the Profile tab select Family Historian Version at the bottom and click Submit.
The how_to:recording_children_other|> Recording Children for multiple partnerships explains how to record multiple partnerships and add children to the appropriate parents.
The screen-shots are from an earlier version of FH, but the process is still the same, plus since V4 you can use the Focus Window in a similar way.

Re: Linking individuals
Thanks for your help - I've now worked out how to link individuals. I'm still learning and sometimes find it all quite mind-boggling, there's so much information to learn that I seem to get bogged down occasionally and can't find the answer. I'll get there, I hope!
The next thing I'm struggling with is the books. I've started one, but at the moment can't quite get my head around how to structure all the information and diagrams. More reading is required, I think.

Although you joined the FHUG over four years ago you seem to be knew to some FH features.
Perhaps you'll find the how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers has useful advice. Follow all its links to other articles, work throgh the Tutorials, experiment with the Family Historian Sample Project, and explore the rest of our [kb]|[/kb]...
Before getting embroiled in Books you need to understand Diagrams and Reports first.
