Quick way to remove custom attributes
Hi
For the majority of the individuals in my FH, there are attibutes under the 'Name' fact called 'Given' and 'Surname'. I think these must have been created when I originally imported my gedcom from Ancestry, but I have ignored them as harmless. However as I clean up my family tree, is there a quick way to delete them en mass? Note that when I create new individuals in FH, these fields are not created by default.
I tried the find them using the 'Change any fact tag' plugin or Tools/Fact Types, but no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Giles

Re: Quick way to remove custom attributes
The easy way is to write an Individual query to show the attributes you no longer require in a column, then on the result set select them all (click on the first and shift click on the last one and press the delete key.

Re: Quick way to remove custom attributes
Thanks Jane.
I'm not sure where to find the attribute fields for 'Surname' and 'Given' when creating the query filter. An example of how the these are displayed against an individual in the list window is:
Name: George /Barron/
Given: Barron
Surname: George
When I'm creating an individual query, I have tried filtering on Attribute, Fact label etc, but get no results. I also see that under the 'Name' field in the filter window there are fields called :Surname and :Given. I tried filtering using the these fields also, but no luck.
Any ideas?

Giles, with the Individual Query open select the Columns tab and use the Data Ref Assistant in the Fields pane on the left.
Under Individual - Name and below the :QUALIFIERS are the subfields Given and Surname you are looking for.
i.e. They are indented as listed in the Records Window as Individual then Name then Given & Surname.

Re: Quick way to remove custom attributes
Thanks Mike. I found the :Surname and :Given subfields and added them as columns to the query. However, when I try to remove them per Jane's post, it deletes the whole individual record.
Conversely, if I navigate to the Individual in the standard FH list view and expand the 'Name' hierarchy and then manually delete the two 'Given' and 'Surname' subfields and then go back to run the query, they still appear in the query view with values (for that same individual). This leads me to believe that they are not the same thing. Could they be custom fields that were created by FH when I imported my gedcom a few months ago, that also so happen to have the same name as the qualifiers?
If i have to manually run through each of the individuals in the standard list view, then I can do that, but was check to see if there was a quicker way to do this.
Cheers

Re: Quick way to remove custom attributes
Please be very careful to follow the instructions I gave.
You mention :Surname and :Given but no such items exist in FH.
Qualifiers have a colon (:) and are in capital letters.
Fields have no colon and are in mixed case.
Under Individual - Name ignore the :QUALIFIERS such as :SURNAME and :GIVEN and :SOUNDEX with a colon & in capitals.
Below them are the subfields Given and Surname without a colon & in mixed case that match exactly the fields you are looking for.

Sorry Mike! This was my mistake as I wasn't looking far enough down the list. Your and Jane's instructions work perfectly. Thanks again, both, for your help!
