It seems that the default place for FH to look for place names is USA..... Dartford can't be found unless I change that location to Dartford, Kent, UK and I have the same issue with other place names - am I missing something obvious ?
Thanks.

Re: V.6 Map functionality
I have moved this to the FH General Usage Forum where it fits better.
Can you please update your FHUG User Control Panel > Proflle on the right to FH V6.
Have you checked the Tools > Preferences > Map Window settings?
I think there may be a regional setting there.
But in common with most geocoders, there are too many similar place names in the world for them to always be right.
Especially with genealogy, it is quite likely that the place you want is NOT in the same country as your current Internet location.
So it has always been advisable to include at least Country if not County/Region in every Place field.
The Edina geocoder used by FH is still in its infancy, and several users have had better results with the Map Life Facts Plugin synchronised to their Place records.

Thank you very much - I will look at what you have suggested.
Re: V.6 Map functionality
Ok - Experts will know this, but less experienced users may find the information useful.....
What I have found is that I need to add ", UK" after every place name so that the map functionality can correctly locate it. That's fine, it will take me a bit of time but no problem. Then, of course, it leaves many of the old place names with zero links, so they now have to be deleted.
I am now getting the hang of it.

Re: V.6 Map functionality
It sounds like you are editing the Place fields in Facts, which results in the problem you mentioned.
Instead, either use the Place tab in the Records Window or use Tools > Work With Data > Places or maybe the Map Window and edit the Place names globally, which will be a LOT quicker, and avoids the problem you mentioned!
What this latter method is doing is edit the Place Records themselves, whereas editing Place fields creates new Place Records and leaves behind redundant old Place Records.
