Census records with no address

For some time I have been planning to do a one location study of the village where my Grandmother was born. At the moment I am looking at the available data souces and trying out different ways of entering the family data into a practice project. I'm using Ancestral Sources to enter data from the 1851 and 1861 census and can't work out the best way to link all the members of each household together. For later censuses each household has a street address which can be used but for these early records only the schedule number is available. Putting the schedule number in the address is one possibility but I don't really like to use the address if it can be avoided.

My first thought is to create a source for each schedule and link every household member via the source. This is straight forward to do but the only way I can subsequently link a household together is via a query starting with the source. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

That is certainly the conventional way to list a Census Household.

There is already the List All Citations for a Selected Source Plugin that does the job, not just for Census Households, but for any group associated with a Cited Fact such as a Birth or Marriage or Death, etc.

Any other method would need another set of Record Flags, or Witnesses, that would also need a Query or a Plugin to create a Report, and would go against the usual database rule of only recording data & relationships once.

The same would apply if you were to use the Address field to group the Census Household, so you would need a Query or a Plugin, and you would need to take great care that the Address (and Place) was unique. To get the Household for a particular Census Year you would have to specify that too. So the Query/Plugin would need to prompt for Address and Place and Year, whereas the existing Plugin above just prompts for one Source.

Note that the List All Citations for a Selected Source Plugin is also more comprehensive. It lists not just the associated Census Events but also any Birth Events or Name details derived from and citing the Source.

I thought that this might be the answer but being new to Family Historian I was worried that I might have missed something obvious. I shall use this method for all census data not just those without addresses.

Thank you for pointing me to the List All Citations for a Selected Source plugin. That is really useful and has helped me identify several inconsistencies in the data I have uploaded from TMG as well.

To help weed out inconsistencies try the Show Project Statistics Plugin!

Goodness, the Show Project Statistics plugin should come with a health warning! The inconsistencies report will keep me busy until Easter at least. Thanks for pointing it out.
