Although I have used FH for several years I have never got round to asking why when I create a Source and complete the TEXT FROM SOURCE and NOTES sections that content does not appear on the 'front' yellow sections.

I agree it is somewhat confusing, but they are different fields, in the same way that Note fields in various positions are all different despite having the same name.
Each Source record has a Text From Source and a local Note field, as well as Author, Type, Multimedia, etc.
The yellow pane holds Source Citations that are part of the Individual record.
Each Citation has a Text From Source and a local Note field, as well as Where within Source, Entry Date and Assessment.
See glossary:sources|> Sources that gives a much fuller explanation.
Those fields play different roles depending on whether they relate to Method 1 or Method 2 sources, that are also explained in that KB reference.
If it is still not clear what they are for, then please ask again.

In effect, the notes and text from source values entered on the source record, apply to the source as a whole and so by default to all facts linked to the source.
But you might want to (sort of) overwrite those items (or select bits for highlight) for single facts - that's when you'd use the corresponding items i the yellow pane.
There's some over simplification there but start with those thoughts. Most of the time I don't use the yellow pane versions.
