CD Publishing: Adding a Menubar item

Post by Gogargirl » 05 Feb 2015 00:20

How do I add an extra page link to the Menubar on a CD please?

I’m afraid I only started looking at HTML today, but so far I’ve managed to do exactly what I wanted:
  • Create a draft CD which has individual narratives
  • Include a family tree page in the project as a gif, which has the individual boxes mapped to the relevant individual narrative page with a double-click
  • Create an extra menubar item ‘Family Tree’ which navigates well to the family tree page in any direction from the Home, Contact, Statistics or Index pages
My problem is (as I’m sure you’ve already worked out) that I don’t know how to insert the same ‘Family Tree’ item onto the menubar of each individual narrative page.

I have read the relevant notes in the Knowledgebase and have tried the alternatives in the advanced section of Step 8 in the CD publisher. Maybe I’ve got the code wrong, but I can’t get any of them to appear on the menu bar, just at various places on the page – and they don’t look good! As this would be such a frequent navigation, I really would want it on the menubar and to be as clear as possible please.

Grateful for your suggestions!

Yes, that is quite tricky.

The simplest approach is to add the gif Picture to the Step 4 Table of Contents.
Then just one click on Home and one click on its Table of Contents entry opens the gif.

As you have discovered, the Step 8 Advanced button allows HTML to be inserted at various places in every page: the Home, Contact, Statistics, Index, and every Individual page.
But the nearest you can get to the menubar is ...in the <body> section, below the menubar.
This allows you to add a link below the menubar but in the style of the menubar.
The HTML code would be like:

Code: Select all

<div id="menubar">
<ul><li><a href='tree.gif'>Family Tree Diagram</a></li></ul>
</div>
Another option is to use the Improve Website or CD DVD HTML Plugin.
This offers many ways to improve the HTML created by FH as explained in its Help & Advice pages.
The Content Tables tab allows a list of Pictures &/or Reports &/or Downloads to be derived from the Home page Table of Contents and added to Pictures &/or Reports &/or Downloads in the menubar.
But this still needs two clicks to open your gif.

Thank you Mike.

I was hoping to avoid the two clicks - that is the same situation as I currently have! I'll try and play around with your other suggestions.
