Pedigree Chart help

Post by British Kiwi » 04 Feb 2015 22:04

Hi
I am doing a short course and need to prepare a pedigree chart similar to the attached. I am going round in circles. I was going to use the Outline report, though I can't seem to get the different events on a separate line rather than in one paragraph. I was then looking at the diagrams but trying to work out what is best. I have managed to limit the type of events listed to just the BMD. Any ideas?

I would start with the "Ancestor Diagram", using options

"Generations Up" as far as you need to go;
"Orientation" Right-left (why isn't this left to right for goodness sake? I start with me at the left and go to my ancestors on the right?);

Then use a text scheme to show the bits you want - for various reasons, FH will put the date of marriage next to the mother's data, not the father's.

In the Outline Report use the Options and set Layout Events and Attributes... on separate lines.

For a Pedigree Diagram start by downloading fhugdownloads:contents:compact_ancestors_diagram|> Diagram Type ~ Compact Ancestors Diagram.

Then use View > Custom Diagram Types > Compact Ancestors Diagram.

Use Diagram > Options and on General tab set Orientation: Right-left.
On the Text tab Select Text Scheme: Birth, Marr, Death and click OK.
That should be close to what you want and can be further customised if necessary.
Use Diagram > Save Diagram As > Custom Diagram Type and name it Pedigree Diagram.

You can then display it again for any chosen Individual by using View > Custom Diagram Types > Pedigree Diagram.

To customise the size of the Boxes:
Use Diagram > Options and on Dimensions tab:
Set Minimum box width and Standard box width to say 2.2".
Set Minimum box height and Standard box height to say 1.0".
Click OK and repeat until happy with Box sizes.
Use Diagram > Save Diagram As > Custom Diagram Type as Pedigree Diagram.

Right I have tried both quickly and they look great, my question now is how do you refresh the information? For the reports there is the rebuild report option. I changed the diagram root and I can't get it to refresh. Do you need to run it completely again?

I am not sure what you mean by "changed the diagram root".
Do you mean Edit > File Root?
You do not need to do that.
Just select/highlight the Indivdual for whom you want the Pedigree Diagram.
Then use View > Custom Diagram Types > Pedigree Diagram.
It will prompt for a Root Person but default to your selection, and rebuild the Diagram based on that person.

After you choose the diagram root and the diagram is displayed, right ckick and you can choose diagram root. I changed it to my Grandma and the diagram stayed the same.

AH!
That does not immediately change the Diagram it only affects the Text in Boxes that is derived from the Diagram Root.

However, you can force the Diagram to be rebuilt by using Diagram > Options and changing any of the red options.
