Family Historian User Group

My familytree.fh_data folder appears to contain 2 gedcom files.

One is listed as .....H Family Tree (Stewart-PC's conflicted copy 2015-01-21).ged and is 3445 KB.

The other is ..........H Family Tree.ged and is 3487 KB

The last several media items have been listed only on the 2nd ged.

I presume that the 2nd ged had been automatically created because there was a problem (for some reason) with the 1st.

Am I safe just to delete the ged which is the "conflicted copy"?

You don't say, but I guess you are talking about Gedcom in a Project in Dropbox?

From your description, and presumably supported by the Modified Date on the files, your proposed action sounds OK.
BUT it might be a good idea to initially copy the conflicted Gedcom to a place of safety until you are sure.

The question is: How did it come about?
I suspect the answer is that you were running both copies of FH at the same time on the two PC coupled via Dropbox.
Not only is that dangerous and will result in conflicts, but it also infringes your FH license terms & conditions.

Yes I am talking about Gedcom in a Project in Dropbox.

However I have never had FH open on 2 separate computers.

What I may have done the other day was to inadvertently open FH in 2 windows on my laptop.

Would that have had the same effect and caused the conflict?

Yes, I think so, if the same Project was open in both FH copies.

Personally what I normally do when this happens to me (normally because I have been working offline on my laptop and forgotten to turn it back on when I get back on the Wifi, is to use the File>Merge Compare to check the two files against each other and possibly merge them before deleting the conflict.
