Fields in custom facts

Post by philmcleod » 20 Jan 2015 10:21

I want to create custom facts for a parents immigration and emigration without their children, similar to standard Immigration and Emigration facts, but a new custom fact does not by default contain the To or From fields necessary to make it work correctly. The particular instance I want to record is a mother (single parent) emigrating and leaving her young child behind in care. I also need to record that the child, when adult, eventually also emigrated to go and live near the mother. This would be recored in different forms in both the mother and childs records. Are creating such custom Events an advanced task for experts or is there a simple way of adding non standard fields to a custom fact. If there is a way to copy the standard immigration fact and save as a new fact name that might be helpful, and then to customise the code

Unfortunately it's not possible to do what you ask, but one option could be to use the Witness feature in 6 to record the Child being left behind, by adding a role for the child on the Mothers emigration.

Thanks - I have managed to get around it partially by adding a custom event Mothers Emigration but to get the sentence code to work correctly I need to change the non visible "in" in the code to "to" so it reads "He witnessed his mothers immigration TO London" instead of "He witnessed his mothers immigration IN London". At present the code is"{individual} witnessed his {label} {date} {place} {age}"
Can this be altered somehow

I've moved this to General Usage because it is nothing to do with Plugins.

I think you need to review your Emigration/Immigration To/From Places.

If it is only the Mothers Emigration why can't you use the Standard Emigration Event for an Individual?

Then it will offer Emigrated from Place: (PLAC) and To: place (_PLAC).

Have a look at the Emigration Event definition for its Senetnce Template and the available codes.

In the Sentence Template you will have three codes to choose from:
{place} gives in plus the from Place: name
{_place} gives the from Place: name without in
{place2} gives the To: place name without in
These latter two you can explicity prefix with from or to as necessary.

Immigration is of course the other way round.
