Using FH v5 on New Computer with SSD and Hard Disk

I am the proud owner of a new computer with a 125Gb SSD and large hard drive disk. The purchase was the result of my old computer finally giving up the ghost! Part of the problem was a broken socket on the old hard drive which has left me with somewhat fragmented recovered FH files which isn't helping!
I wish to run FH on the new machine in the most efficient way and this leads me to considering loading the basic programme on the SSD and holding all data on the hard disk.
However, two questions;
a) Does anybody have any experience of running FH on a similar set-up?
b) More frustratingly, how do I define file locations from within FH when setting up? All the info I've managed to find seems to be on rectifying lost links, moving media files etc. but not allowing me to do an initial set-up. I've run up against a brick wall in trying to set up my FH system.
Any help would be much appreciated!

I run with a very similar set up, with no problems. If your supplier has not already done so I would recommend moving your Documents folder to your hard drive just google "Move Documents Folder Windows 8".

To change the default folder for Projects, just click on the blue link at the bottom of the Project Window.

Most other settings go into Program Data, which again is located based on your Windows settings for that location.

By default the FH program will install into C:\Program Files... and C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\... or whatever your system defaults for those folders happen to be.

Your FH Project data and Media can be stored anywhere, by setting the Location in the Project Window. The default is the My Documents\Family Historian Projects folder, which depends on your system default for My Documents. See the how_to:v4:understanding_projects|> Understanding Projects Introducing the Project Window video.

Many thanks all! I am now up and running (and have been for a while and running very fast).

So what did you put where? The information might be of help to anyone thinking of going the SSD route.
