Upgrading 2 home computers with version 4 & 5

We would like to know what to buy to upgrade to version 6. We have 2 computers one with version 4 and one with version 5 (both located at the same address). Can we just buy one CD of Version 6 and install on each computer? If so which Version 6 do we buy?

Thank you

Moira Meek

Hi Moira, interesting question.
I have moved this to General Usage as it is not a User Group website topic.

Could you please update your FH Version so it appears in the right-hand panel.
At the very top of this FHUG page click User Control Panel, then on the Profile tab select Family Historian Version 6 at the bottom and click Submit.

Why have you not updated the V4 PC to use V5?

You should buy the Upgrade V5 to V6 as identified on http://www.family-historian.co.uk/store.

Then you can install on both PC using the V6 and V5 licence keys.

See how_to:reinstall_family_historian|> Family Historian Installation Advice for full details.

Moira hasn't said whether the 2 computers are used by the same person. As I understand it if both of them are used by different people at the same time then by the terms of the license you would need two copies.

Yes, that is correct, see how_to:about#licence_agreement|> FH Licence Agreement, but you only use one at a time don't you :)

It is also a good idea to synchronise the two PC to keep your FH data in step, but that only works if just one PC is using FH at a time.
See fhugdownloads:synchro|> Downloads and Links ~ Synchronise and Backup Tools such as Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, or Google Drive.
