Links to Places

Hi,
This is my first visit to this group and first posting.
I have just upgraded to V6 and am interested in how to run a query or report on identifying the links that are allocated to places.
For example I have a place called Newport and there are 300 links to this place, When I show the place on the map I can see all the events for that place.
How do I get this as a query/ report?
Many Thanks
Adrian

Welcome to FHUG.
Use Tools> Work with Data> Places.
Select the place in the list and click Where Used on the right.
The results will be displayed in the Query window. You can double-click on any of the cells containing the place in the results set to locate the relevant fact in the Property Box.

Lorna,
Thank you very much for the prompt solution.
I think I will learn a lot from this forum.

I have a related question - the Place Records that have 0 links next to them - can I delete these as they are no longer used?
I seem to have a few of these with similar place names to others that do have links. Perhaps these were typos that were stored for some reason?
Thanks,
Simon

If they were just typos they can certainly be deleted. If any are genuine places you might want to keep them as they may be useful in the future - particularly if you have already added any information in the note field or linked any media.

I see that some are duplicates so I guess they can also be merged with similar named places that do have links associated. Not sure if that is any better than deleting them.
If media was linked - would that appear as a number in the link column or are those links simply individuals?
Thanks,
Simon

In Tools> Work with data > Places there is a column headed Media, after the column headed Used. (You may have to widen the box to see all the columns). The number of media items, if any, will be shown there. Unlike the Used column, which displays a zero if there are no links, the Media column will just be blank if there are no Media for a particular place.
