Expanding a record

I'm creating a new chart and have a number of relatives on after starting with an "all relatives" diagram. There is one relative I would like to expand and show his mother and father but there is no expansion button showing. Any ideas please?

If there is no expansion he is not a blood relation of the root of the diagram, in which case you can either try and adjust the root, or just add another diagram in to the chart.

With your "one relative" selected on the existing chart, click the All Relatives button on the toolbar to open a new chart for all relatives of that person. You now ought to be able to drag out a new box to add a relative to them (drag UP for parents, LEFT or RIGHT for spouse, DOWN for child).

Alternatively, on your existing chart just double click the relative to open an individual property box for them, click the UP arrow at the top of the box to add parents. They may not appear on the chart though (see Jane's reply).

David, I think the relative already exists, but is simply not displayed, because as Jane said, that branch is not blood line ancestors.
