Opening an FH chart

Post by KenP » 08 Jan 2015 14:53

I am using Family Historian V5. I have just opened a GED file I created on V3 and tried to open a FHC file that was created around this time. When I go to "View" then "saved charts" it comes up with the following message " This feature is only available within the contents of a Family Historian Project". Can somebody please explain and does this mean in V5 I can't view preiously saved FHC files.

This is to do with standalone V3 Gedcom and V5 Projects.

When you upgraded from V3 to V5 did you convert to V5 Projects?
Unless you do so, some features are disabled, such as FH Charts.

See how_to:v4:understanding_projects|> Understanding Projects for full details.

If anything is still not clear then please ask.

I cannot remember if Charts creatd in V3 are compatible with V5.

It is fully explained in the KB link I gave above.
If after studying that, and the FH Help it refers to, there is anything still unclear, then please ask.

Think I've sorted it now by creating new Project file and importing existing Gedcom file and existing FHC files. Thanks for your help

That was quick!
Remember to check your Media files are all OK by using Tools > Work With External File Links.
There should be no X marks, and the File Links should all start Project Data Folder - Media.
If not, then ask for advice.
