Sorry it's me again about a software problem that I have with the 'Place' Window.
I am using FH V6 on a PC running Windows 7 Home Premium with Service Pack 1.
I first started using genealogy software with Family Tree Maker on MSDOS then via several up grades until I purchased FH 4 several years ago.
Now, I entered data in strange places in the early days and these errors have transferred through to the present day and are now coming to the surface as I try to make my data consistent.
My problem is that I have found strange things in Place names like '1st Wife', the GRO BMD reference? Divorced. When I have Clicked on 'Where Used' I get a strange Property Box up Which looks like the Following 'Property Box - Main Tab and Property Box - Facts Tab.
I have deleted the data in the Facts tab and get Zero in the 'Used' column on the Place window.
Normally re-starting FH clears zero usage etc but not in these cases and it would appear that FH doesn't like it either as it can take two or three attempts to start the programme.
How can I remove the offending data? that may have erroneously transferred from MSDOS or Family Tree Maker or I just foolishly put data in the wrong boxes. Any way it is now causing problems.
Please help
John
Reading the preview the file uploads are being displayed in reverse order. Should be Main Tab, Facts Tab, Place Window

Re: Zero locations in Place Window
The "strange Property Box" is a Family Property Box associated with Family Records where all Family Facts such as Engagement, Marriage & Divorce are held.
There is even a Families tab in the Records Window but it is strangely hidden by default.
See Tools > Preferences > Records Window > Record Type Display Options.
Yes, empty fields are often automatically deleted, but not always.
In FH V6 the Place Records are retained even if not used by any Place fields.
This is because users may want to compile a common database of Place Records to use in several Projects and don't want the precious Lat/Longitude, Standardized, Media, and Notes being destroyed just because no Place field happens to need them in one Project.
I cannot explain why FH is starting erratically, as it should not do that.
If it is definitely repeatable, then make a backup copy of the Project, and report the problem to Calico Pie.
They may need a copy of your Project to analyse the problem.
To remove the details, open the Places tab in the Records Window, select the redundant entry, and hit the Delete key on he keyboard.

Re: Zero locations in Place Window
You know Mike I have never seen the Place Tab in the Records Window, am I more senile than I thought I was or is it a V6 thing?
It worked a treat, thanks a lot, I have been trying to loose the data in various ways for several days, even deleting the person it was attached to.
Thanks again.

You are not senile it is a V6 thing.
Place Records are new and associated with place mapping.
