Using Dropbox or similar to use on two PC's

Hi
I like the idea of having a single point of data as described in
fhugdownloads:contents:dropbox|> Utility ~ Dropbox
however this only works on the projects folder
Has anyone tried and succeeded in a solution to allow the customisations folder at C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\, described in
glossary:family_historian_program_data_folder|> Family Historian Program Data Folder
and
how_to:move_settings|> Move Family Historian Settings and Projects
to also be shared?
Is there a registry key that can be amended to point the folder location to be within a different location that could then be stored in a dropbox or similar?
hope my query makes sense
many thanks

There are two solutions to your question.
(1) Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings
Whenever you update any customisations or preferences, use this Plugin with its Backup folder within Dropbox.
You can then use its Restore option on any PC to migrate not only the ProgramData folder, but Plugin Data settings in folders outside the Project, FH Tutorial files, and FH Windows Registry settings.
(2) Family Historian Synchronisation
In the fhugdownloads:contents:dropbox|> Utility ~ Dropbox advice under Family Historian Synchronisation it explains how to link ProgramData folders into Dropbox.

thanks Mike
hope you had a good day yesterday?
I had considered the plugin, but the chances of remembering if I'd made any changes that would affect the ProgramData folder are not good
Hadn't thought about the Linked folders option, but that sounds great! Will have a play over the weekend and let you know how i get on
thanks for your quick reply
Phil

I haven't tried it for this purpose but
http://www.boxifier.com/ might fit the bill.

Personally I have moved the all the settings to Dropbox, and used Windows Symbolic links to keep FH happy.
There are some notes in the Knowledge base here:
fhugdownloads:contents:link_shell_extension|Symbolic Links
It does not do the registry, but most of the settings in there I don't change much and some I like different on my 10" laptop from my dual screen 23" Desktop anyway,

I have been successfully uisng v5 via Dropbox on two PCs for quite some time.
While I was travelling overseas recently I downloaded v6 and installed it on my small laptop and it is working well. Now that I am back home I want to install v6 on my main laptop but am a trifle confused about how to do this without paying a second fee via Paypal for another download. I want to be able to download the upgrade to this second computer and install it using my new product key but can't seem to find guidance on the FH website or here in the forums.
This jetlagged old girl would love some guidance.
TIA, jill

Jill,
I'm not sure, but I would think you could just copy the file that you downloaded on your small laptop over to your main laptop and then run it there. You would then use the same license key that you used on your small laptop. If that isn't correct, I'm sure someone else will say what to do.

I feel so silly. Thanks Bill.
FH6 is installed and synced between my two computers.

Jill,
I'm glad you got it working.

thank you both - really liking the symbolic links method, and infact now using it for other purposes too - its a brilliant feature
thank you and have great new years
