The Census fact includes a witness role (and associated sentence) for Head of household, which is useful for when the Census fact principal is not head of household.
However for most of my census facts the Head of household is the principal (i.e. fact owner), but the principal sentence makes no reference to Head of household.
How do I handle this? One way would be to rewrite the principal sentence to include Head of household and then edit this out for the few occasions when the principal was not Head of household.
Am I missing something here? Any advice would be appreciated.
TIA ... John.

I think, but I have not tried it if you use
If there are no entries left eg the principle is the head of household the sentence will be skipped.Other Role Holders Code: {other=____}
Witness sentences only. This code behaves exactly like the code {role=____} above, except that the current witness is excluded from the list of people. This makes it possible to construct witness sentences like this "{individual} was a bridesmaid.< The other bridesmaids were {other=bridesmaid}.>."

Re: Census fact - Head of household role for principal
Thanks Jane - I tried that and it worked a treat for witness roles and their sentences.
But what I'm looking for is a way to vary the sentence for the principal. Usually the census principal will be Head of household, but occasionally they will be a simple resident, and I'm looking for a way to handle both cases for census principals.
Cheers ... John.

Did other not work in the Main sentence?

"Other" works in the main (i.e. principal's) sentence as you suggested. But what I think I need are two principal roles (each with their own sentence), one where the principal is Head of household (which covers the majority of situations) and one where the principal is just a Resident.
Is that possible?
Tks John.

I have moved this to General Usage because it seemed misplaced in Importing and Exporting.
