V6 circa Date format

Post by tatewise » 12 Dec 2014 15:39

There are some attractions to the new Approximate Date format using c. or circa in front of the date.

However, in some circumstances it is an annoyance.
e.g.
The =LifeDates() function returns the birth-death years and prefixes a year with c. if it is approximate instead of following it with a ? as in V5.
This renders sorting by LifeDates in say Record Window columns less useful, because they will not fall into birth date order. The approximate c. years are grouped together separate from the rest.

Many of the standard Date Formats suffer a similar fate.

It would be useful to have some options to choose between c. prefix and ? suffix for Approximate dates, either globally, or per function and per format.

Was this fixed between the V6 Beta and final Release, because it does not now seem to be a problem?

However, Narrative Reports use the wording: "...born in circa Jan 1900..." which does not scan well and should be "...born circa Jan 1900..." without the "in" prefix.

This is mentioned in the two [FHU] Mailing List threads:
[FHU] Events
[FHU] Imprecise dates
