Sorting by fore-name

Post by E Wilcock » 23 Nov 2014 09:48

I am a user of The Master Genealogist alongside FH, so looking at capabilities I shall miss in FH, now TMG is no more. Sorting by fore-name has been important to me.

When examining oral evidence or diaries etc, one frequently comes across people - friends and family member identified only by their forename -

Experimenting with FH, I find one can search for a particular forename but over the years, I have frequently sorted the list of persons by forename. So might wish for it in FH.

You can do this easily enough, just add an extra column to the Records window for the Given names and click on the header to sort, or use the Search for Any Name plugin and just enter the first name you are looking for or create a query to search by forename contains.

O so many apologies. I just discovered that one can add a column and sort on it. And did this. I need to try and pass on this info to TMG users, as it is wrongly stated elsewhere that one cant do this in FH.

Could you give a reference to where that is stated and perhaps the FHUG or Calico Pie can get the advice updated.
