Icons appearing out of date order in diagrams
I have entered census data using Ancestral Sources. When I entered the census data I did not necessarily enter all the 1841 data, then 1851 data, then 1861 etc I did whatever I was ready to do first.
When I go across to FH v5 and make an all descendants diagram with say gggrandfather as "Top Dog" the boxes have census and other icons displayed.
If I go to View/Record Lists/Individuals and open gggrandfather's record, the census flags are listed correctly in the individual record except that they are not in census date order, despite the data file having been re-ordered to get them into the correct order.
Secondly, despite all the census facts being in the individual's record and being in the correct date order, not all the flags are displaying in the diagram. So......
I look in Diagram Options/Boxes and see that the lower half of the screen has tabs for some of the census flags but not all, which says to me that the missing and miss-ordered tabs are the cause of the missing and mis-oredered Icons on the diagram.
Problem is I am d*****d if I can see/remember how to get the other flags to have tabs;
nor can I see how to re-arrange the order of the tabs to match the chronological order of the censuses and
nor do I know how to re-order the Census Flags in the Individual Record to be chronologically correct.
Can any one help? Please? Thank you in advance

Re: Icons appearing out of date order in diagrams
On the Boxes tab, select Flags and then Edit Condition to sequence them.
I seem to remember there is a arrow or mark to the right to scroll the tabs, but I don't use flags to set icons much now as I use expressions.

Thank you Jane for so prompt a response:
Doing that has now re-ordered the tabs on the lower pane into the correct order, and so the diagram is now correct in that respect
. It has also correctly ordered the Census Flag dates in the Individual's record -
Oh Joy! Thank you!

Why not use Expressions instead of Flags to set Icons, then you won't have those problems with Individual Flags.
See how_to:using_flags_and_icons_and_expressions|> Using Flags and Icons and Expressions.

Re: Icons appearing out of date order in diagrams
I have a custom diagram that shows an icon (different in each case) where I have a source for birth, bapt, marr1, marr2,marr3, death and bur but only when the source assessment is "primary evidence". Currently I set the icons by using flags which I set from a custom tab on the property box.
Is it possible to use an expression to set the icons in a diagram rather than me do it manually? If so is anyone able to suggest what that expression would be?
Many thanks
Peter E

Re: Icons appearing out of date order in diagrams
Hi Peter.
First of all review the how_to:using_flags_and_icons_and_expressions|> Using Flags and Icons and Expressions advice.
That gives several worked examples that come close to the Expressions you need.
e.g.
%INDI.BAPM.SOUR>% will match the 1st Baptism Event if it has a Source Citation.
=IsTrue( %INDI.CENS[year=1871].SOUR>_TYPE% = "Census" ) matches a Census Event in 1871 with a Source Citation where its Type is Census.
So combining those two concepts gives:
=IsTrue( %INDI.BAPM.SOUR.QUAY% = "Primary evidence" ) will match the 1st Baptism Event if it has a Source Citation Assessment of Primary evidence.
The same scheme works for BIRT, DEAT, and BURI Events.
Using the Data Reference Assistant gives much of that, but familiarisation with functions such as =IsTrue( ) does need practice.
Multiple marriages are a little trickier, but the examples give:
=Exists( %INDI.FAMS>MARR.PLAC% ) is an alternative to the preceding 1st Marriage Event example.
=Exists( %INDI.FAMS[2]>MARR.PLAC% ) is a similar alternative, but for a 2nd Marriage Event
So you need:
=IsTrue( %INDI.FAMS[1]>MARR.SOUR.QUAY% = "Primary evidence" )
=IsTrue( %INDI.FAMS[2]>MARR.SOUR.QUAY% = "Primary evidence" )
=IsTrue( %INDI.FAMS[3]>MARR.SOUR.QUAY% = "Primary evidence" )
Note however, these all apply to the 1st such Event and its 1st Citaion, but that wold normally be the case for Primary evidence.

Mike,
Thanks for your advice, I shall give it a try.
I have tried to work this out for myself many times in the past but have always failed. I think that expressions and functions are just a bit above my skill level.

Re: Icons appearing out of date order in diagrams
No problem. Now you can say goodbye to all that manual updating of Flags and Icons.
