Facts

I have started right at the very beginning having deleted all previous efforts.
I apologise for beginners questions which may have been asked previously.
In 'fact sets' I want to enter such things as baptism and adoption for starters but all I get is 4 entries: Blessing of marriage, change of name, Tree No,& unmarried.
How do I enter other facts please?
Thank you,
Ron

On the main menu use Tools > Work with Fact Sets.
Or in the Facts tab of Property Box use the Add Fact button.
A list similar to below will appear with at least the Standard Facts.
These include Adoption and Baptism near the top.

Ron,
From the four Facts you mention, I think you might be looking at a list of exclusively Custom Facts. These would be ones you have created yourself in the past.
In the Event/Attribute List (shown in Mike's reply above) does the Fact Set box at the top left say Custom? If so, use the drop-down menu to change it to <All>. You should now see the full list of available facts, Custom as well as Standard.

Hello Mike & Lorna.
Thank you both for your input. However, I am so frustrated, I have done exactly what you have both said and I end up with the same 4 items. I even went into the 'sample', the Munro's, and the same thing happens. Obviously I have ticked a box or done something somewhere.
What can I do? Any suggestions other than pack up and take up marbles.
Your combined help will be much appreciated
Ron

There is one fact that I did not mention. On your list Mike against Fact Set you show 'Standard' On my mene I can only use All or Custom and I have tried both of these.

Is it possible that all the standards have been deleted? Is it possible to "reinstall" the standard setup (aoso all of FH)?
Have you ticked "Show Hidden" (RH side)?

It sounds as if the folder containing the Standard Facts been deleted or moved to the wrong place on your computer, although the Custom Facts folder is still in the right place. They should both be in C:\ProgramData\CalicoPie\Family Historian (unless you are using Windows XP or earlier). If you are not familiar with searching for files, the easiest way to restore the Standard Facts, and anything else that has gone missing, might be to re-install Family Historian.
Mike is better than I am at explaining how to do this sort of thing so he might be able to suggest an alternative.

Thank you Lorna.
Yes I am using Windows XP. I am glad that you suggest re-installing. I was going to write to Jane to ask for instructions. My version 5 was a download but I still have my Licence Details.
Whilst I am a little reluctant for this course of action because of 1 or 2 special features (I am partially sighted)I do think that it is the best way forward. I only hope that Mike reads this and can advise me what to do.
Thank you for your time
Ron

Re-installing FH V5 is one of those operations that is fairly straightforward but difficult to describe all the steps in a foolproof way.
The full details are in how_to:reinstall_family_historian|> How to (Re-)install Family Historian.
Ron, perhaps your grandson could help you through the process.
