Newbie in knots

Bearing in mind, I don't know what I'm doing yet ... I thought I'd just start my family tree by entering some basic family names and dates but I've already tied myself up in knots because of a strange family relationship. Two Carter sisters married two Gregor brothers so my cousin is my cousin twice over ... our mothers are sisters and our fathers are brothers. Hard to explain but no incest involved, honest! The trouble is when I try to look at our family tree, there are weird linking circles all over the place and everything seems to be in duplicate and very cluttered and confusing. Is there a simple solution to undo whatever damage I've done??!

I suspect what you are seeing are "duplicate lines" which link areas of the tree which are linked, They are used to show that some parts of the tree should be repeated but have been "closed off"
The above is my husbands tree, they did the same thing as your family, but they did it two generations running and then one married another brothers widow!
The lines can be changed or omitted completely by using the Diagram Options. Pressing the help key will explain in more details.

Wow, Jane, your husband's family puts mine to shame. We're quite normal in comparison!
Thank you so much for your reply ... I will now go and investigate. Fingers crossed!

Brilliant, it worked! Or, at least all those distracting curved lines have disappeared. I would never have worked that out on my own so thank you for such clear instructions: much appreciated.
