Can I delete old backup files

Post by Linda researcher » 01 Oct 2014 21:56

I appear to be accumulating FH Project Backup files on my desktop. When asked do I wish to back up I always say full backup. Is it safe to delete the backup files on my desktop screen which are dated before the latest.

Yours help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Happy hunting.

Linda, I have moved this to FH General Usage where it fits better.

Yes, if those old backups have been superseded then they can be deleted.

You only need to perform a backup on exit if you changed anything.
You only need a Full backup if you have changed the Public folder contents.
You need a Medium backup only if you added Media folder files.
You are safe with a Small backup if you only changed your family history data. (Gedcom)

Other changes such as Queries, Diagram settings, etc are not kept in your project and need a different approach.

See the Knowledge Base and in Glossary check the Backup and Recovery advice.
