Export Gedcom of data shown in Ancestors & Descendants Diag

When you click on someone's details and create an Ancestor and Descendant diagram, you get that person's siblings as well as ancestors and descendants on the diagram (i.e. descendants of the siblings too).

Is there then a simple way of exporting all of the data in this diagram to a gedcom file?

I often do this if I want to send part of my tree to someone else.

Create a COPY of your project or gedcom (depending if you want to send them all the associated media or just the gedcom) to work with. Name the copy with the name you want the recipient to see.

In that copy display a tree of all the people you want - you can delete or hide individuals or groups of individual.

Select all the remaining individuals - shrink the tree until the whole thing is displayed on the screen the just draw a selection box around all of them to select them.

From the Edit menu click on Add to Named List, create a new list with a name you choose.

Close the diagram

From the File menu click on Split Tree Helper

Select Delete all individual records NOT found by the individual query below

On other Records select Delete ........ records with no links to them for each of the types of record

Click on Individual Query, scroll down and click the query Named List Members

Click Delete, then choose the named list you created above. Click ok

All of the unwanted individuals (and associated records will be deleted)

Save the new file/project.

Be sure to use a COPY of your project or ged file in case something goes wrong. If it does you can just delete the copy and try again.

If it is only the Gedcom file you want to export, you can use use File > Import/Export > Export > Gedcom. This method avoids the need to make a copy of your project first.

Start in the same way as in David's method, displaying the diagram and then selecting all the individuals by drawing a box round them all. Then use Edit > Add to named List.

Then use File > Import/Export > Export > Gedom.
Click Select. Then at the bottom of the Select Records dialog click Add Using Query.
Choose the Named List Members query, and then the new Named List you have just created.
Click OK. These records will now be selected ready to Export.

A technique very similar to the above is explained in the how_to:create_an_export_gedcom_based_on_a_diagram|> Create an export Gedcom based on a diagram.
This uses the File > Import/Export > Export > GEDCOM File command, which does NOT require a Copy of your Project, and has significantly improved in recent versions of FH.

The resultant GEDCOM file still has FH custom tags, Media formats, etc, that some genealogy programs may not support.
Depending on the GEDCOM destination, you may wish to correct those format problems.
If so, then use the Export Gedcom File Plugin.
