* Some Pictures Missing on Ancestor or Descendant Diagrams

This has happened on a few occasions where a minority of pictures are not showing on an ancestor or descendant tree. For each person I can get them back in a variety of ways depending on the circumstances :

• If there is more than one multimedia record for the person I can switch the order of precedence and switch it back again.
• If there is a frame attached to a single multimedia record I have to adjust or delete/reinstate the frame.
• I can sometimes just switch to a different type of tree diagram and then switch back.

All images are in a single directory. Number of links on the missing images range from 1 to 12.

The problem is just an irritant at the moment - just don't want it to become a more serious issue given the database size.

Any thoughts on what might be happening and what I might do to stop it.

I don't recall this being a problem that has been reported before.

Could you give a few more details:
What Windows OS?
How many image files in the single directory?
Is this directory the Project Media folder?
How complex are the tree Diagrams?
Are they recreated afresh or are they Saved Charts?
How soon after opening FH are the tree Diagrams displayed?
If you wait a while after opening FH does the problem still occur?

It might simply be that FH is still gathering the image thumbnail/profiles?

What are your Tools > Preferences > Advanced settings?
Especially for Auto-load Thumbnail Images and Load Diagram Pictures?

It's worth remembering that media is loaded asynchronously, try changing the setting in Tools>Preferences General Tab Advanced to see it the problem goes away. Diagrams may take longer to display as images will be processed BEFORE the diagram displays.

Thanks Mike/Jane,

Answers to Mike's questions are :

OS is Win7x64.
c2600 images are in the default Project Image directory.
The tree diag was quite complex.
It wasn't a saved chart - just the standard all relatives chart built from the root record.
The chart would start to display a second or so after clicking the icon. It would change position slightly as (I guess) the rest of the chart was being built; it would be stable within a couple of seconds after that.
Waiting has no effect. I had three siblings each with missing (different) images. I could work on one record to get the image visible for that one and it would have no effect on the other missing ones. They required manual intervention.

Tx Jane for the suggestion on unticking the Asyncronous box. I've now done that but I'd already fixed all the missing images manually so I'll need to wait to see if and when it happens next time. (Load up time is now much slower, so I'll toggle the setting to see if I can work out if it does make a difference.

The only other point I can add is the missing images tend to be in a tight family group - eg siblings and/or their spouses/parents. They are very much in a minority - perhaps less than 5% of the complete chart.

Your original posting mentioned Ancestor Diagrams and Descendant Diagrams, but your latest posting mentions All Relatives Diagram. So presumably the problem afflicts them all?

If you use the toolbar camera Media icon and View All Media are they all displayed OK in the Multimedia Window?

If you wait for them all to display and then create a Diagram does the problem still exist?

Are all the missing Pictures using Link to Face frames, or are they sometimes full images?

Are your Diagrams using Installation Settings and is the chosen Text Scheme using Installation Settings?

If not, then does the problem still occur if you do use Installation Settings throughout, except perhaps for the number of Generations?

I can't recreate the problem as it seems to happen randomly so I can't now be 100% sure it occurred on all three diagram options; it definitely happened on all relatives. I'll look out for that next time it happens so I can be more certain

In the multimedia window the only images that were not displayed were those with missing links, six in total. They were all legacy and are now deleted. (All the images that were missing in the diagrams did have links.)

Some of the images are full images and others are linked to face.
