Hi My ex father in law did not know his mother his age or where he was born.
He had difficulty getting his State pension.
He was known as Frederick Newton
After much help from experts I have now discovered that he was in fact a Frederick Boswell and his mother took him away from his birth father with his brother and bigamously remarried a William Newton.
How do I show this as to all intents and purposes his offspring tax records Pension etc are all in the name of Newton but his Birth certificate in name of Boswell.
I need to be able along with other members of the family to recognise both situations.
Should I put in Name Newton with a note but show his father as Boswell or the other way round ?
Any help appreciated

FH is quite able to deal with an individual belonging to two or more families as a child. My wife was adopted and I have trees for both her adopted family and her birth family. If I put her into focus and select the parents and siblings tab then both familes show. Of course you have to choose a primary name but if you record both names switching the primary name is a simple task - click on the more in the property box next to the name and select which one to make primary.
