listing all the events/ facts related to a Source

Post by jimlad68 » 15 Jun 2014 21:46

I am hoping to start using the Method 1 for Sources (a separate source for each multi person event like census with detail in the source text). However, look as I might I cannot find a way of listing all the events/facts related to a Source. For method 1, I would have thought this imperative.

The best I can find is to add Source to a query for ALL events, but that only returns one per event, when many events could have many sources.

Is there a way to do this?

Try the List All Citations for a Source Plugin.

Great, the wording of the plugin did not suggest event list to me.

I would have thought that this function would be somehow built into the Source Tab of the Records Window making it faster to use. Something for the wish list.

You can use the "View > Record Links" option, but it does not include items at Fact level. The name of the plugin does exactly what it says it lists all the Citations for a Source, regardless of if the Citation is on a Fact (Event/Attribute), or Record, or any other field.

(Maybe you did not realise that Citations can be applied to many more items than just Facts.)

If you add the Plugin to your Tools menu and select a Source Record it will work directly from the Source Listing tab on the Records Window.
To achieve that, in the Tools > Plugins window, select the Plugin, click More>> button, and tick Add to Tools Menu.

Thanks that is much faster. I had been wondering if it was possible to add items such as plugins, queries, reports, even individuals to the Main Toolbar for quick access, or even a new dropdown menu for similar items, but this is next best for plugins.

I think it has been requested that a separate menu-bar item be added just for Plugins.

I presume you know that any custom Diagrams, Queries & Reports are added to the menu-bar View > Custom Diagram Types, View > Custom Queries & Publish > Custom Reports.
Also saved FH Diagram Charts are accessed via View > Saved Charts.
