PDF

Post by chris jacob » 24 May 2014 12:33

Following fhug instructions for creating a PDF I get the message "PDF file output is not enabled". A previous post on this topic was referred to FH Help, but I see no reference to enabling there. I have upgraded to v5 from v2 so presumably didn't get a PDF Creator automatically. I have installed Cute PDF Writer as suggested, but am unable to proceed.

Welcome to the FHUG Chris.

FH V5 should automatically install its own Family Historian PDF (novaPDF 7.7 printer) so you don't need Cute PDF Writer.

Checkout the how_to:reinstall_family_historian|> Installation Guide especially Save As PDF File Does Not Work in the Family Historian Installation Problems.

Make sure you are installing the latest FH V5.0.9 free download.

Also check whether your data has the V2/V3 Upgrade to V5 Upsets Fact Sets problem.

There are many other issues associated with upgrading from V2 to V5, such as Projects and Plugins, that I advise you spend some time understanding using:
how_to:family_historian_documentation|> Documention
how_to:index|> Family Historian Getting Started
plugins:index|> Plugins
ancestralsources:index|> Ancestral Sources.

I've just noticed the same problem on my system (Win7, FH 5.0.9). Having done a reinstall and re-boot the problem persists. NovaPDF7.7 is installed (with today's date) according to Control Panel>Programs and Features. I've had no problems previously saving charts as PDF.

A quick update:
I realised that after the first re-install there was no message indicating the PC needed to be restarted. I did it manually instead but as mentioned in previous post this made no difference. I have now deleted the NovaPDF and done another reinstall and this time got a restart message following which the PDF support is now working.
