* Flags Tab on Property Box
Flags Tab on Property Box
I saw a topic on here which displayed a flags tab on the property box, detailing all the flags for that particular individual, i.e. birth, marriage and death certificates obtained and any other information flagged on the diagram. I have all the flags on my diagram which I want but like the idea of the flag tab so I can see them without having to open up the diagram.
Is there an easy way to do this, a download or plug in for instance that I am missing, or do I have to do this from scratch myself.
Any help appreciated, thanks
Marilyn

Re: Flags Tab on Property Box
Marilyn, on a small point of terminology, Flags apply to Individual Records, whereas Icons apply to Diagram Boxes, and your Diagram Options choose to display an Icon for each Flag.
The point is that each Flag does not necessarily display an Icon and could affect any Box Feature, and Icons can be displayed for other Conditions not just Flags.
Now to answer your question, I'm afraid you need to craft a Custom Tab for the Property Box yourself, because all the Flags (except Living and Private) are your own customisations, and Downloads and Plugins cannot help you.
However, it is quite easy.
In any Individual Property Box use the Menu top right and choose Customize.
Click More Tab Tasks and choose New Tab and enter a New Tab Name such as Flags and click OK.
Now the trick is to untick Show most commonly-used items only bottom left.
Then select <Custom Item> from the Available Items above and click > button in middle.
In the New Custom Item dialogue choose a Custom Item Name to match two Flag names.
e.g. Living & Private
Now tick Part 1 and Part 2 and enter a Flag name in each Label.
Then in each Data Reference click the << Select button and find the matching Flag.
When done click OK at the top right.
Now repeat adding a <Custom Item> for each pair of Flags until done.
(You can break off at any point and return later to add more Flags.)
Click OK at bottom of Customize Property Box dialogue to see your Flags tab.
Use Customize > More Tab Tasks > Export Tab to preserve your customisation in the Public folder.

Re: Flags Tab on Property Box
Thanks for that, I tried it and it half works. I did the flag tab for Birth Certificate and Marriage Certificate, but only the Birth Certificate appears under the flag tab. Should parts 1 and 2 be the same flag, or have I done something wrong.
I have tried to go into it again and ended up with another tab headed Certificates. Basically I have only got the flag for birth certificate under the flags tab when I entered a pair of flags, birth and marriage certificates.
Think I have got it a bit mixed up.
Thanks Marilyn

Re: Flags Tab on Property Box
Not a problem.
When you want to change an existing tab, don't use More Tab Tasks > New Tab.
Before working on a tab, select it in Customize dialogue from the Tab drop list.
For any custom tab you want to remove, use More Tab Tasks > Delete Tab.
To change any chosen Selected Item on Flags tab use the Edit Custom Item button.
To show two Flags then yes Part 1 refers to one Flag and Part 2 refers to the other Flag with the appropriate Label and Data Reference in each part:

Re: Flags Tab on Property Box
I have just succeeded in doing a flag tab for the property box with the very kind help of Mike Tate. (Thank you Mike).
One of the flags I have entered is Children who have died before aged 21. Just wondered is it possible to have some sort of indication of the number of children who have died of a couple, or individual, preferably with their names under a tab on the property box. I think I may be going a bit far with what I want, but if its possible that would be great.
Any help really appreciated, thanks again.

Re: Flags Tab on Property Box
You could write a plugin to calculate the number and create a custom attribute to contain the information and a list of the Children in the note if you want, this could then be added to the property box.
If you are happy to contain the information manually, you just need to create a new attribute in Work With Fact Sets and you can add it as a fact on each person who needs it.

Re: Flags Tab on Property Box
I am afraid that is not possible automatically, because currently the Property Box tab customisation only supports data fields directly associated with the Individual.
To include details about Children would require following Record links to the Individual child Records, that cannot be done at present.
But as Jane says, you could duplicate the details in a custom Fact local to one parent.
However, it would be fairly easy to create a Query to list what you have asked for.

Re: Flags Tab on Property Box
I have written a Custom Query that should work for you.
Obtain it from my OneDrive via Children Died Before 21.fhq.
Left-click the orange OneDrive link above, and then double-left-click the Children Died Before 21.fhq box to download into your My Documents\Downloads folder.
Locate that file in that download folder and double-left-click Children Died Before 21.fhq to install into Family Historian.
Then in FH use View > Custom Queries > Children Died Before 21.

Thanks very much for that Mike, works a treat, just what I wanted.

Re: Flags Tab on Property Box
When I add for example a census in AS an icon is placed on the diagram and the relevant box in my Flags Tab is ticked. I am trying to figure out how to do this for other events not covered by AS.
For example I have a box for GRO Birth.I can get the my relevant icon on the diagram using =ContainsText( %INDI.BIRT.SOUR>TITL%,"FreeBMD",STD) but I have to manually place a tick in the Flags Tab.Is it possible to do both as AS does?
Regards

Re: Flags Tab on Property Box
John, may I suggest you study the how_to:using_flags_and_icons_and_expressions|> Using Flags and Icons and Expressions.
It is a common misconception that Flags and Icons are the same thing, when they are not.
AS may add a Census Flag to an Individual Record but that on its own does NOT affect Icons.
You have probably forgotten, but you will have at some time in the past used the Diagram Options > Boxes tab and used << Add Condition > Record Flag and chosen the Census Flag for a Census Country & Year.
You would have to repeat that for each new Census Flag for any other Census Country & Year.
For your GRO Birth Icon you have used << Add Condition > Expression instead, so no Record Flag exists nor is needed.
What you are requesting is to use the same Expression in the Property Box tab to signal the condition.
Unfortunately, the Property Box tab currently does not support Expressions with a link to another Record, which yours does as it links to the Source Record Title.
It is hardly necessary because on the Facts tab a click on the Birth event shows the Source Title with/without FreeBMD.
However, you can use your Expression in a Query or in a Records Window Column to display the state of the Expression as explained in the article I mentioned above.
The alternative, if you really want to mimic AS, is to use Record Flags instead of Expressions.
Then when you tick the Flag box the associated Icon will appear via the << Add Condition > Record Flag setting.
BUT this is inferior to using Expressions, because you have to remember to tick the Flag box whenever the associated Source Record is cited, whereas Expressions are automatic.
What has happened is that you have become conditioned to think that the Flag is necessary, but it is redundant, and you could probably dispense with the Flags tab altogether.
