Hi

I am using FH version 4.

I could do with some advice as to how best to achieve the best possible diagram appearance in large All Relatives diagrams.

Please can someone advise as to the settings I should have my program set to.

Thank you.

Beth

It rather depends on what you mean by "best possible diagram appearance".
What sort of things did you have in mind?
Could you please quantify "large" ~ roughly how many individual boxes?

The default settings are often quite acceptable. Have you tried them?
If you have tried them, what was unsatisfactory?

Hello Mike

Thanks for replying.

I have one tree which has 382 individuals (134 families). It will take 101 sheets of A4 paper to print this one out. Many of the sheets will be blank. Always glad to learn the tricks of the trade here.

I think I need to go back to the default settings in diagram. Not sure how to do this can you advise please.

Many thanks.

Beth

Hi Beth - here goes...

First it may be worthwhile preserving your current settings in case you decide they are better than the defaults.

In the All Relatives Diagram use Diagram > Save Diagram As > Custom Diagram Type.
Choose a memorable Custom Diagram Name such as My All Relatives.
This style of Diagram can then be shown using View > Custom Diagram Types > My All Relatives.

To restore the default installation settings use Diagram > Settings > Restore Installation Settings.
Answer OK and Yes to the two subsequent prompts only if you agree.

There is a Wish List entry Ref 76 Option to not print blank pages in diagrams that you might like to vote for.

To reduce the size and blanks try a different Diagram > Options > General > Orientation.
Left-Right is often more compact then Top-Down.
Less text in each Box lets them be smaller, so try another Diagram > Options > Text ~ Text Scheme.

Using the Diagram > Enable Moving/Resizing may juggle Boxes into less space & fewer blanks.
Checkout its Help for advice.

Rather than printing the Diagram on lots of sheets of A4 paper, using your expensive printer cartridge ink and tedious reels of sticky tape, why not get it professionally printed.
