Help required with Fact Sets

Post by NickH » 20 Feb 2014 19:59

I have downloaded the Military2.fhf Fact Set but I can't seem to install it.

Neither double-clicking or using File/Import/Fact Set works - I get the message "An error has occurred. Cannot install fact set."

Any ideas how to solve this please?

I suspect that the Security Permissions on the C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian folder, perhaps for the Everyone group, are preventing Write access.

Can you Import anything else such as Diagram Types, Report Types, Queries, Plugins, etc?

Right-click on the C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Fact Types\Custom folder and choose Properties and then the Security tab, which should look like this with most permissions Allowed:

If you are using Windows XP things are a little different.

Thanks.

I can import other things such as Plug-ins with no problem.

When I look at the Security settings for the Fact Sets folder I do not have a 'Everyone' group but I have a Users group and that is set for Full Control.

Still get the same error message.

I am on a Windows XP PC at present, that has different settings, but I think what you describe is the problem.

I recall that there was a Users group with Full Control but I think that is not enough.

Check the Properties > Security tab of other folders that work OK (such as Plugins).
They should all be identical.

If they are not all the same then let me know, and say which Windows OS you are using.

The trick is to ensure all the FH folders inherit their Security settings from their parent folder.
I cannot recall exactly how to do that, but can give exact instructions when back on my Windows 7 PC.

[EDIT]
Now back on my Windows 7 PC, and the following should work on Vista and Windows 8 too.
Ensure you are logged in to an Administrator account.
Using the C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian folder, open its Properties > Security tab.
It should look like the screenshot I posted above with Everyone allowed all permissions.
Click the Advanced button, and then the Change Permissions button.
Tick Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object and click OK as shown below if you scroll down.
