I have search old posts but can't find my problem. I have changed my media file location in Version 5....When I am in FH I can view the new file location and all is okay but when I want to add a multimedia file to someone it shows the old media file. Is that because it is in the Gedcom file and how can I get rid of it.
Any assistance will oblige.

First of all could you please use the User Control Panel centre top, and in Profile set your Family Historian version so it appears on the left of your postings and you won't have to tell us which version you are using.

In what way have you changed your Media location, because in a Project it should stay put?

Where are you viewing this new location, and what folder path is shown?

I presume you are using the Individual Property Box > Multimedia tab Add Media button and selecting Insert From File....
The file browser window will default to whatever you used last, but you can navigate to wherever you like, and that new location will be remembered for next time.
This is remembered in the Windows Registry and NOT in the GEDCOM file.

Many thanks for your prompt reply, I haven't used (to my shame) FHUG for a long time, but I have now set my Profile for future use.
I was using the individual Property Box but I kept using the Add Media and pressing using the Link to Existing Record not from Insert from File.
Well it looks like I have a long job ahead of me now to add all the reintroduce all my multimedia files.

Tommy, the problem may not be as bad as you think.
I suspect that the Multimedia Record file links simply need editing using the appropriate FH tools.
If you use Tools > Work with External File Links it will list where FH is looking for your media files.
Click the Help button for advice, and use the Re-Map and Edit buttons as necessary.

Thanks for your proposed solutions, but first let me answer the latter part of your solution.
My original path was C:\User\Tom\Documents\Familay History Projects\FH-Rees Family.fh-data\media\media ...don't ask how I got the double media but that was back in history. In my wisdom (which is slowly leaving me as I get older) I didn't like the double media so I coupled the last media to the first. Now with your help I realise that the Media/media is in the registry and even though I have destroyed the file FH still looks at it.
I will now look at the first part of your solution and let you know what happens.

No, that Media folder path is NOT in the Windows Registry.
But, it is in the File path link of every Multimedia Record in your GEDCOM (.ged) file.

However, it is easy to correct using Tools > Work with External File Links as I mentioned above.
I suspect its window looks like the one below with an X against the nested Media folder and all lower folders & files.
Select all the X marked folders & files below the X Media folder.
Click the Re-Map button, and choose Re-map within Project Data Folder.
In the Browse For Folder popup, select the top Media folder, and click OK. Job done! The Help button in this window gives more advice about using this dialogue.
