Please can anyone suggest the best place (event / attribute) to record
Freedom of the City and Admission to a Livery Company records.

If you want to use a Standard Attribute then possibly Occupation or Title would fit the bill.

Otherwise you will need to create a Custom Attribute as explained in Help > Book: "Getting the Most From Family Historian 5" in Chapter 6 Events, Attributes & Notes in the Property Box.

I seem to have been inconsistent on this.

For one 3G GF I created a custom attribute "Member of the " with a sentence "{date} {individual} was a member of <the {value}>< {place}>." The value of the attribute is the name of the body. The date is that of admission to the body. The note for the attribute could explain how and why he became a member. (If the word "member" doesn't work for you, you could use the following alternative or tweak the sentence).

For another 4G GF, I used the standard occupation attribute, with a value suitable to the sentence (which in my case is "{date} {individual} was {a/an value}< at {address}>< {place}>." ) Thus in his case, I had a value of "burgess of the Preston Guild".

(Yes, if only his son had taken it forward, I could have been a member of the Preston Guild every 20 years.... And if the phrase "Once every Preston Guild" means nothing to you, then this comment will be a waste!)
