Just a couple of quick questions, I would be grateful if anyone could answer please.
I have saved a couple of diagrams but on the diagram toolbar I have pressed to see the whole diagram, all the diagrams I have saved are now very tiny (showing 1% in bar along the bottom). I cannot now make it the normal size. In the diagram options drop down menu it says it is 100% so I cant make it any bigger there. This is probably something so simple but any help to get it to normal size again would be very much appreciated.
My husband has changed me onto another computer, my family tree is all there but I had flags on the diagrams for censuses, baptisms, marriage death etc., which are no longer there. I think last time this happened I had to start all over again with them. Is that what I need to do or is there a simple quick way to make them all appear again.
Any help with both of the above question would be very helpful and appreciated, thank you
Marilyn

Re: Flags and Diagrams
Hi Marilyn, I have moved this topic to General Usage for Family Historian, because it is not to do with the User Group Forum that is for "Suggestions and requests for help on using this site".
There are two sizing options for Diagrams - one is Scale and the other is Zoom.
Scale adjusts the size of the final printed Diagram.
It is set via Diagram > Options > Scaling or Diagram > Layout & Scaling > Diagram Scale.
It is reported in the status bar at the bottom right as Scale: xx% but only if not 100%.
Zoom only affects the size displayed on screen.
As you have discovered clicking the View Whole Diagram world icon can Zoom in to 1%.
The current Zoom percentage is also reported in the status bar at the bottom right.
Zoom can be adjusted using the buttons to the left of the View Whole Diagram world icon.
i.e. + Zoom In and - Zoom Out and Select Area to View.
Also the Diagram > Zoom menu offers several options including Reset Zoom Level to 100%.
When moving from PC to PC you need to copy more than just your Family Historian Projects folder.
You also need to copy your customisations of Preferences, Diagrams, Reports, Queries, etc, etc.
The how_to:move_settings|> Move Family Historian Settings & Projects gives full details.
BUT the easiest method, since you have FH V5 is to use the Plugin Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings.
See plugins:help:backup_and_restore_family_historian_settings:advice|> Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings ~ Advice for instructions.
Before using the Restore option you can use the Options tab and tick Allow RESTORE Registry Data because some default settings for Diagrams are saved in the Registry.

Thanks for the help, appreciated very much.
Re: Flags and Diagrams
Hello & I wonder if you can help me too? I read all the foregoing with interest - but I am not sure how to apply it to my own situation.
I keep all my data, FHProject folders, media etc on a removable drive & use my laptop or my desktop computer, with that drive plugged in wherever I happen to be. So the FH v5 software lives on both computers & the data on neither.
I knew that some settings are in the C/ProgramData/Calico Pie/FH folder so I copy that from the computer I am using at the end of each session onto the removable drive & then copy it from that drive to the C/ProgramData/Calico Pie/FH folder of the next computer I use before starting FH each time but I hadn't realised there are other settings & preferences elsewhere, like the Registry.
So, please, although I now understand how to change from an old computer to a new one, is there any simple way of swapping backwards & forwards the way I do?
Many thanks in anticipation of your help
Cathy
P.S. Both machines run Windows Vista, if that makes any difference

Re: Flags and Diagrams
Yes, the same technique will work.
Instead of copying the C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\FH folder, use the Backup and Restore FH Settings Plugin to Backup to the removable drive to a folder such as R:\Family Historian Projects\Backup\.
Then on the other PC use the Backup and Restore FH Settings Plugin to Restore from the same removable drive folder.
Just repeat this same process every time you switch from PC to PC, although it is only strictly necessary if you have customised settings for any Diagram, Fact Set, Plugin, Property Box, Query, Report, or Preferences.
The Plugin essentially does the same as you do.
On Backup it copies from the C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\FH folder and from the Windows Registry to your drive.
On Restore it copies from your drive to the C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\FH folder and to the Windows Registry.
It should work with any combination of Windows OS.
BTW: I do hope you regularly backup your entire removable drive to some other media, otherwise you will lose all your family history when (not if) it eventually malfunctions. See glossary:backup_and_recovery|> Backup and Recovery.
Other users make use of Cloud storage such as Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive to synchronise & backup their Projects between two PC. See fhugdownloads:synchro|> Downloads and Links ~ Synchronise and Backup Tools.

Re: Flags and Diagrams
Many thanks for that, I'll try what you suggest.
I do have a Box backup place in the cloud but it won't upload folders, so I just upload the basic gedcom. Other media gets backed up to two separate hard disks elsewhere. I had a lot of trouble with computers dying, hence I no longer keep anything valuable on the computer itself.
I will certainly follow the links you have given me, & thanks again.
