Recently my version of FH5 has lost/not displayed the Custom Facts, Tabs & Queries that I created for my Research To Do Lists and Queries, this seems to have occurred after I downloaded the Fact Sets and Property Box Tabs for Census and Military.
After looking at the Knowledge Base for Backup and Recovery, What is not backed up? I tried to find the Family Historian Program Data Folder on my computer in my C Drive and it is not there, my computer is a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Laptop.
1) Could this be the reason for the loss of my Custom Facts, Tabs & Queries? I have not made any changes to my Preferences settings since creating these Custom Facts and Tabs.
2) I downloaded and used the trial version of FH5 before buying the boxed version of the software, after buying it I entered my Registration Key to open the full version, should I have first removed the trial version and then used the software CD for FH5 to reload the program?
3) Should I remove my version of the FH5 program after backing up all project files and then install the software CD to reload the program?
All help and advice would be welcomed.
Brian

Re: C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\.
Please confirm you used the V5 installation instructions for the Property Box Tabs and not V4.
1)
First check out glossary:family_historian_program_data_folder|> Family Historian Program Data Folder especially the Notes about it being hidden, and reveal it.
how_to:move_settings#application_settings|> Application Settings explains what should be there.
Once revealed, if you suspect anything is missing then in Windows 7 you can select any folder such as Calico Pie or Family Historian then right-click and use Restore previous versions to roll back to an earlier date.
(If neither exist, then create them, and then use Restore previous versions.)
2)
That method of entering your licence is perfectly valid, but reinstalling from CD will do no harm.
3)
Once you have got back to normal I would advise you use the Plugin Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings as advised in the Backup & Restore KB.

Re: C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\.
Normally installing over the top does not cause any problems.
Have you checked that it's not just that the Tab has been turned off?
If you have lost the query if you search for .fhq in windows it should find where it's hiding and you can double click it to reinstall it.
This document covers where most of the data is held and has links to Mikes backup and restore plugin for settings.

Jane, Mike
Thank you for your help and advice relating to my problem, set out below is my answers to your questions and what I have done.
Mike:
I am certain that I used V5 installation instructions for the Property Box Tabs.
1) I followed the instructions to reveal the Program Data but there was no Calico Pie or Family Historian Folders.
2) I installed the CD over the top, but this did not install the Program Data file for Calico Pie or Family Historian.
Jane:
I checked to see if the TAB had been turned off by looking at the Property Box Menu but could not find the box I was looking for. I found my lost query by searching for .fhq in windows as suggested.
I have printed and read all the Knowledge Base information highlighted in your replies and decided to remove FH5 from my computer and reinstall it from the CD as if it was a first time installation.
After I installed the program, downloaded the Update for Version 5.0.9 and downloading the Plugin for "Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings" I backed up my current Project. This resulted in a backup file appearing in my project Plugin Data folder with a file named Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings.dat, and within Family Historian Projects a Family Historian folder containing all the folders expected plus a folder named General.
My current project and the Family Historian Sample Project are now up and running again. I am not sure what happened to my computer to cause this problem (gremlins at work?) but all is back to normal, I think I will leave it for a few days before I create the Custom Facts and Tabs that disappeared.
The final thing I would like to do is print all the pages for the "Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings" Plugin but not sure how to do this.
Thanks to both of you for your help in getting me up and running, I don't know what we would do without all your help that you provide.

Re: C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\.
Brian, thankfully that all seems to be sorted - can't imagine what caused those folders to vanish.
I presume you are asking about printing all the Backup and Restore... Plugin Help & Advice pages.
In addition to the Plugin, you can also open those pages in your preferred browser starting from the plugins:help:index|> Plugin Help & Advice page.
You can then use its usual File > Print or File > Print Preview commands.
Via the Plugin, or with Internet Explorer, you can right-click on any page and choose Print or Print Preview.
I would advise using Landscape orientation for the printouts.

Mike
Thanks for your reply, just before Christmas the personal finance software program that I use stopped working and with help from their Help Desk they reinstalled it for me by remote control. I told a friend of mine who works in I T what had happened and after downloading their trial version came back with the comment "It's very flaky" and if it happens again remove the program. Perhaps it is this that caused my problem?
I have now printed all of the pages for the "Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings" Plugin by following your instructions.
