Unmarrieds shown as married in a report

Jane married Bill, they had 3 children. Recording the marriage and the children is straightforward. Jane and Bill then divorced. Jane had a child by John, they were not married. In Jane's individual box I have entered John as a spouse with the status "unmarried couple" and recorded the child against them. Jane then marries Tom, they have no children. If I now call up an individual "ancestors by generation" or "descendants by generation" report for Jane it says "She married Bill on (date) at (place), she married John on (date) at (place), she married Tom on (date) at (place).....,

She didn't marry John however, am I entering something incorrectly somewhere that is causing the report to say they are married. I have entered each of the men as spouses, perhaps this is the problem?

It is perfectly correct to enter each of the men as spouses.

I think the problem may be that you have a Marriage event (with or without a Date and/or Place) for the Family record where the Status is "Unmarried Couple". You can delete the unwanted Marriage event from the All tab of the Property Box.

Once you have got rid of the reduntant marriage event, as described by Peter, you will find you can use the Report Option called 'Auto-Generate Sentences if Missing Facts'.

This is from the FH Help files:

I have a similar situation in my Tree and I entered the relationship as 'never married'. This is then shown in the Report as 'XXX had a relationship with YYY'.
Try that

Cheers
