Custom Columns and Saving Expression

Post by capnkeith » 28 Oct 2013 12:32

I have been using the "Create Work In Progress or Research To Do Lists" for some while, a couple of days ago I added some extra ToDo Task expresions to the Individual Records Column.
I noticed this morning the ToDo Column is missing from the Individual Records Window. I replaced the column but had to redo the expression which had gone back to the default. Saved FH closed down and reopened and the ToDo Column was again missing!
Is there a limit to the length of an expression that can be saved? I am trying to save with 8 ToDos, they all work ok and show up in the column but for some reason I cannot save the change to the Individual Records Window.
Where is the modification to Records Window saved? I looked for it in the backup but couldn't see it.

I have not checked, but some places have a 256 char limit. Can you split your Todo's over a couple of columns?

The Configure Record Window Columns settings are saved in the Windows Registry as explained in the how_to:understanding_scope_of_features|> Understanding the Scope of Features so there may well be a limit on the length of Expressions, but this would be imposed by FH and NOT the Windows Registry.

In the Configure Columns window try using Save to Query.
Then Load from Query will restore the settings until a solution is available.

I have split them into two columns and it works but the limit must be a higher figure than 256 characters as they both have more than that in.

That works as well.

Thank you, both.

Keith, did you report the limitation to Calico Pie via support@family-historian.co.uk?

If not, then they will probably not have fixed it.

Please confirm the problem still exists in FH V6, and if it does then report it.

Hi Tatewise,

Yes it is still the same. I assumed at the time from your wording that a solution was in hand, I will report it.
