FH V5.0.9b upgrade_fh5_to_5.0.9b.exe

Post by tatewise » 16 Oct 2013 09:55

I already have FH V5.0.9 installed using upgrade_fh5_to_5.0.9.exe dated 02 Nov 2012 size 10,318 KB.

In checking out thread V5.09 (10841) I checked the download at http://www.family-historian.co.uk/downl ... ee-upgrade.

This offers a new free download of upgrade_fh5_to_5.0.9b.exe dated 27 Jun 2013 size 11,456 KB.

Does anyone know what is different about this newer larger version 5.0.9b ?

When I downloaded this latest update using Chrome, I got the following:
2013-10-16_112342.jpg
2013-10-16_112342.jpg (8.17 KiB) Viewed 5170 times
EDIT: and Windows 7 refuses to show Properties for this file.
EDIT: Properties finally appeared after a delay of several minutes; apart from this I've never noticed any delay.

Yes, in thread V5.09 (10841) the word malicious is mentioned more than once, but I have downloaded it using Internet Explorer and Firefox without any warnings, but have not tried installing it yet.

In my Windows 7 the Properties are displayed OK.

Usually such downloads have the Unblock button shown in the Properties, but this file does not.

I have scanned the file with Microsoft Security Essentials without any threat reported.

[EDIT]
Peter, had the download finished when you first tried Properties ?

Yes, Mike, the download had definitely finished, and I tried several times, both from the right-click context menu in Explorer, and by Alt+Enter. It now shows Properties as quickly as other files, and I see that the Version is still 5.0.9.3. None of my tools can detect any problems with the file.

A Google search suggests there are a lot of complaints about Chrome saying downloads appear malicious for no genuine reason. If in doubt try IE or Firefox and scan with your AV tool.

Nevertheless, I am still looking for an explanation of what is new in this 5.0.9b version?

Mike the program inside the install is the same 5.0.9 as the original file, I believe there was a problem with a small number of Windows 8 systems with the install routine which has now been fixed. There is no need to download the new installer unless you have been unable to install using the original 5.0.9 installer.

Chrome does have a tendency to assume the worst and it seems to be tied with the number of times google has seen the file. Unfortunately Google do not have any systems in place to tell them about valid files.

Yep, just to confirm, I use Chrome and the word malicious was used in the warning. No problem with the download though.
