V5.09

Post by saban » 15 Oct 2013 14:02

In the project window I have just received a message saying that a free update of version 5.09 is available to download. When I tried to do this I got another message saying that it was malicious; I got out in double quick time!!
What is the meaning? Is there an upgrade?
Please advise, thank you

Ron

The latest version of FH currently available is 5.0.9. You can check what version you already have by clicking on Help in the toolbar at the top of the screen, then clicking About Family Historian at the end of the list. A small window will open showing on the first line what your current version is. If you don't yet have version 5.0.9 it is safe to download it. It will install over your existing version.

Can you remember what exactly the warning message said? Did it actually use the word 'malicious' or was it just asking if you were sure you wanted to download this program?

Some anti virus programs don't seem to like FH updates. I know I keep getting messages about pdf's being possibly harmful.

Yes, I got a message saying it looked as if it was malicious. I'm afraid I ignored it.
I THINK it was a windows message and not from my AV (BT's McAfee) but I can't be sure.
I have Windows 8 and I assumed it was nannying me. Hope I wasn't wrong! The download came from Calico Pie anyway.

If the message is like any of the how_to:reinstall_family_historian#windows_security_warnings|> Installation Guide > Windows Security Warnings then it is OK.

However, NONE of these use the word malicious only the words harm or at risk.

As Usual with FH it is a big thank you; I have done what has been advised and I have now upgraded to 5.0.9.. It does seem that one asks a question and within hours the answer comes back. Lorna, Anne and Mike, as a beginner I do most sincerely thank you.

See thread FH V5.0.9b upgrade_fh5_to_5.0.9b.exe (10843) that illustrates the Google Chrome message saying appears malicious although the download is perfectly OK.
