So that we know which version of FH you are using please click
User Control Panel centre top above.
Then select
Profile > Family Historian and choose your version (I suspect
V5), and click
Submit button.
- Have you been able to successfully create websites before with the current settings ?
- Have any files in the target folder been set with the Read Only attribute ?
- Can you create a similar website using the Family Historian Sample Project ?
- Can you create the Reports chosen at Step3 - Choose Report Templates ?
e.g. Publish > Miscellaneous Reports > Family Group Sheet (for Web, CD or DVD) but using whatever Report Templates you have actually chosen.

Mike
Have you been able to successfully create websites before with the current settings ? Yes i have. This was on another computer. Since transferring to a new computer this is the first time i have tried to create a website.
I have changed the directory to which the files are saved with no change to the message.
Have any files in the target folder been set with the Read Only attribute ? When i ran the crreate, it deleted all the files and then came up with the message. there are no files in the folder.
Can you create a similar website using the Family Historian Sample Project ? I have tried another project with the same result
Can you create the Reports chosen at Step3 - Choose Report Templates ? When i click option it does not respond. No reports show in the slot.

I suspect in moving from PC tom PC those
Report Templates do not exist?
Can you see them in
Publish > Custom Reports or any other
Publish Report option ?
Did you use the
Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plugin or some other method to copy all your customised Reports, Queries, etc in the
C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\ folders from PC to PC ?

All the reports appear under publish and their sub menu

You said
No reports show in the slot.
Do you mean that no
Primary/Secondary Report Template Types are listed in the wizard
Step 3 ?
Via the
Publish menu, can you display the specific
Reports chosen as the
Primary/Secondary Report Template Types and access their
Options ?
PLEASE try to create a similar website using the
Family Historian Sample Project NOT one of your Projects.
If this project is not listed in
Project Window, then use
More Tasks > Samples > Reset Sample Project.

I have checked the Publish menu and none of the reports will operate - it just says report not found. I have used the plug in when I transferred originally and I have now used the plug in again to transfer the settings to see if this made any difference. The answer is No, it didn't. I am now left with Family Historian not being able to produce reports and not being able to produce a website. Clearly, I need to know where to put the reports and custom reports folders to see if I can rectify the situation. How do I do this?

I suspect you have some sort of permissions issues after copying over the files.
Try reinstalling FH over it's self and see if that fixes the reports.
Alternately
Assuming you have Windows 7 or above take a look in
C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Reports\Standard
If there are no report files in there try copying them from (just program files, if you have 32bit windows)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Family Historian\Reports

Please tell us the
Windows OS version ( 8, 7, Vista, XP ).
The
Report files must be there in the correct folders otherwise
Publish would not list them.
So as Jane says, it is probably some sort of read/write file permissions issue.
Every folder & file within the
C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian folder should have access for
Everyone:

- ProgramDataSecurity.png (27.75 KiB) Viewed 9235 times
What happens with displaying
Standard &
Custom Diagrams and
Standard &
Custom Queries ?
Try re-installing
FH V5 and then check
Reports &
Diagrams &
Queries before using
Backup & Restore Plugin.
Have you been running the
Backup & Restore Plugin from the
Administrator account you use to install
FH V5 or another account?

I use windows 7, but i have loaded family historian on drive E. Does this cause a problem?

Do you mean you have
INSTALLED FH V5 on drive
E:\ somewhere ?
If so can you please specify where exactly.
This is NOT recommended.
Is this how FH V5 was installed on the old PC ?
If the FH V5 installations are not identical on both PC then the
Backup & Restore Plugin is NOT guaranteed to work.
See plugins:help:backup_and_restore_family_historian_settings:restore|> Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings > RESTORE.
An absolutely identical Family Historian Version MUST be installed on each PC.
Nevertheless, I believe the
ProgramData folder will still be at
C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\.
Or do you mean you have
LOADED your
Family Historian Projects on drive
E:\ somewhere ?
This should have no side effects on the standard
FH V5 installation on drive
C:\.
See
Installation to a disk other than C: (6721) for related dialogue and advice from Nick Walker as well as me.

As I expected, it seems as a user I cannot achieve what I want, I have to change to accommodate the software. Since the problem of loading software on other drives has been around since I started using computers in 1987 any sane person might have thought that by now the software industry would have recognised this. I will now reload FH on C which takes considerable time as I have to load the original disc and then upgrades. Thank you very much for your help and support

All you need to re-install V5 is your V4 and V5 serial codes. and a straight install of V5

Yes, check the how_to:reinstall_family_historian|> How to (Re-)install Family Historian and you will find that installing
FH V5 is very quick & easy.
As thread
Installation to a disk other than C: (6721) explains, installing programs on a non-standard drive does not avoid putting many of its components on the C: drive, in the Windows Registry, ProgramData folder, etc, etc.
It is not clear what you hope to achieve by installing on another drive such as E: ?
FH is no different in this respect than most other software.
Also it is the way it is designed and tested, so any other configuration runs risks.
You can still load all your
Family Historian Projects on drive
E:
