Hello, I have now received from Jane a 20 font point book "getting Started with FH". I dare not lose this.
I have never backed up anything before on a computer and so I am looking for advice. I am thinking of going into town and visiting a store called PC World. What I would like, if available, is a CD which would take everything from my PC and when I make additions, deletions or alterations I can save it to this disk. If this is possible, I would purchase two disks and keep one on the PC and one somewhere else.
I just cannot afford losing the details from this book.

You don't want a CD. I suspect a reasonable large USB Key/Pen drive memory stick would be fine. You just plug it in and it will show as a drive and you just copy things on, you can also use the Family Historian backup option to save to it as well.

If you are running a Windows machine have a look at the free programme from Microsoft called Synctoy. It will backup / copy other files and folders that you want to once you have configured it. If you have a lot of data you maybe better off getting an external usb drive rather than a usb memory stick as they hold a lot more data. A 1 TB one should cost you around £60.

I am awfully confused and am waiting for my grandson to come and sort me out (out of the mouths of babes and suckling's!!) I do have USB slots; one is taken up by an oversize keyboard from R.N.I.B. and the other by a mouse. I can release this by purchasing a wireless mouse. Hopefully there will be some instructions if I purchase what Jane suggests a "large USB key/pen drive memory stick" Hopefully I shall purchase this on Saturday.
One other point I would like to raise; when I go into FHUG I go into General Usage and read what other members have to say on various subjects. By doing this am I reading everything? How do I know if a member has written to something on one of the other subjects?
Should I be asking this this sort of question here?

I suspect you may actually have more than 2 USB sockets.
Using a wireless mouse will NOT release a USB socket,
because the wireless receiver needs a USB socket.
However, I am sure your grandson will sort it out.

Thank you Jane & Mike. Here is an update: I went to PC World this morning Jane and did as you suggested, I purchased a 16GB USB Drive for £19.99. There aren't any instructions so I hope my Grandson knows what to do when I see him later this week (otherwise I shall come back to you!!!)

Finally, Mike, you said that there was a tick on the second icon, please tell me where because after I have read the article I would like the tick on the first icon to disappear so that I know that I have read it.
